A major contributor in
the North West and beyond

We were awarded teaching hospitals status back in 2010 and merged in 2012 with the Community Health Services of the former NHS Blackpool and NHS North Lancashire.

Right now, we provide acute services to the 330,000-strong population of the Fylde Coast, as well as the estimated 11 million visitors to Blackpool each year. At the same time, we’re a provider of specialist tertiary care for Cardiac and Haematology services across the regional health economy catchment of Lancashire and South Cumbria. We also host the National Artificial Eye Service, which serves the whole of England.

Our hospital sites

We currently provide services from the following locations:

  • Blackpool Victoria Hospital
  • Clifton Hospital
  • Fleetwood Hospital
  • Whitegate Drive Walk In Centre
  • National Artificial Eye Service

The Lancashire Cardiac Centre

This £52m, Blackpool-based Centre provides heart and lung treatment for the people of Lancashire, Cumbria and beyond. It is one of the biggest developments ever seen in Victoria Hospital’s history.

There is great recognition here. We have the Celebration Ball and staff awards. There is the employee of the year award, unsung hero award, patients award and chairman’s award, which is great because the staff and patients enter the nominations throughout the year.

Our Clinical Haematology Department caters for adult patients with both malignant and non-malignant diseases of the blood. At Blackpool Victoria Hospital, the Department of Haematology works closely with Cancer Services to provide a comprehensive and effective service to haematology and cancer patients. Our specialist, purpose-built unit makes nursing and training in haematology easier and more practical for both staff and patients.
